Alexandra Kadinopoulou is a classically trained painter from northern Greece. With studies in the UK, Spain, Italy and Greece, she gained experience working in galleries and museums before branching off into Art education for nearly two decades, teaching ages 5-80 in public, private and EU funded settings. She advises emerging artists on how to sharpen their focus, deal with creative block and structure their presentations for approaching institutions. Also, she assists serious collectors in archiving and collection evaluation.
Her own studio work consists of archetypal portraits and landscapes, and is characterized by a vivacity of colour and a meticulously untidy, sharp mark-making style. Through her passion for community impact, she illustrated over a dozen children’s books for Greek NGOs focused on poverty alleviation and volunteered to lead school mural projects and workshops.
"There are people we meet that bring us gifts unknowingly; such is the case of master sculptor Jeremiah D. Welsh.
Experiencing his work is not a solo venture, as an invisible presence accompanies the viewer. Welsh directs our sight as through a tower viewer or binoculars, like a being who has just learnt to see, highlighting all that fills his heart with awe and wonder. A picturesque wildlife scene becomes exalted by texture and reflection, guiding our eye to ephemeral details like a dissipating cloud or a babbling brook captured in solid testament.
As the artist Paul Klee testified in his ‘Creative Credo’ essay on the creative process (p.1920-Tribune der Kunst und Zeit), “Art does not reproduce the visible; rather, it makes visible”. Welsh’s work proves this statement, with compositions that flatten and infuse layers of the macrocosm into the microcosm.
More than seen, his technical skill with shaping space allows for each work to be deeply sensed before it is even touched, a serendipitous added dimension owing to his chosen materials. As when our mouth waters at the sight of our favourite treat, the viewer’s fingers tingle by the multitude of senses displayed. My eyes dart from one detail capturing a tactile texture, to another detail infusing the subject with palpable character.
Welsh’s practice is highly meditative, translating his exploration of life through long hours or carving and molding in the studio. Naturally artistic and versatile, he delves into experimentation with a variety of 2d and 3d sculptures in metal and cast cotton, as well as children’s books and illustrations. A highly professional artist, kind, humble and down to earth, I cannot recommend him enough for his quality work and enjoyable storytelling.
When life and circumstance deny one their passion for a time, the destination becomes elevated to an existential quest. Yet by the time our hero arrives, they are wise enough to treasure the journey as well as the goal. I’m grateful that Welsh invites us all to witness his journey."
