89TH ANNUAL AWARDS EXHIBITION - VISIONS OF FAREWELL - PLATE 2 copy.jpg

FANTASTIC NEWS!!! It is my genuine pleasure to share with you that my relief sculpture, "Visions of Farewell" has received The Marcel Jovine President’s Prize in the National Sculpture Society 89th Annual Awards Exhibition, 2022.

This will be the second time that one of my sculptures has received this national award for realism, in the form of bas relief.  I am thrilled!

This year's Jury of Awards convened during the past weekend to announce their final decisions. My sincerest thanks to each of the judges for recognizing my sculpture with this award. I am truly and greatly honored!

What further excites me about receiving The Marcel Jovine President’s Prize, is that now “Visions of Farewell” will also be traveling to the NSS Gallery in Manhattan, to be displayed as part of the Award Winners Exhibition from Nov 14, 2022 - Jan 27, 2023.

VISIONS OF FAREWELL - MARCEL JOVINE PRESIDENT'S PRIZE

What an incredible opportunity to share both this individual work, as well as my unique vision for vibrant, high-craft bas relief sculpture - with the visitors, artists & collectors who stop by to explore the new NSS Gallery in New York!

My sincerest thanks to each of the judges on both the Juries of Selection & Awards this year - as well as to everyone at both NSS headquarters & the Brookgreen Gardens for their thoughtfulness, time & energy in making this wonderful exhibition possible!

Finally, my sincerest thanks to Mr. Robert Lockwood at Rio Grande Custom Frames for his graciousness of spirit, craft & expertise!

Visions of Farewell's Sculpture Dialogue reads:

Along our river path in Tokyo lay an island rookery filled with herons. My walk past it each day became deeply tied to my years in Japan - thereby watching three generations of birds find their way from egg to fledglings to young adults. It was wonderful ... until just before my return to the US, I discovered a young heron entwined in nylon line. Despite my best efforts, I could not free its legs before it flew off. This work was created with the hope that we might learn to be more responsible caretakers of our world … & to honor that beautiful, entangled soul." JDW

National Sculpture Society 89th Annual Awards Exhibition

"The annual juried exhibition of the National Sculpture Society, the oldest professional organization of sculptors in America, presents the work of masters alongside rising stars in American sculpture. Brookgreen Gardens is the only venue for this exhibit. Fifteen awards are presented by the Society along with the popular People’s Choice Award, determined by votes of visitors to Brookgreen Gardens. This exhibit is on display in both the Jenniwein and Noble Galleries in the Rainey Sculpture Pavilion and is included with garden admission"
