MAYFLIES AND TROUT RISE, OKUTAMA RIVER

Just as another piece of happy news - my bronze relief sculpture, Mayflies and Trout Rise, Okutama River, was selected to be included in the September/October 2018 issue of Fine Art Connoisseur magazine's- Today's Masters special section entitled "A Fascination with Fish."

What an honor it is to be able to be counted as a contributing artist in this article! I have long loved the aquatic world and its wonderfully fragile and uniquely magical inhabitants. I am so very grateful for the chance to once again speak quietly into the art world of my fascination in the living dynamism and gift that nature is to me! What a happy surprise! One step at a time ...

*** My sincerest thanks to Mr. Peter Trippi , Editor-in-Chief, for his selection of my work, Mr. Matthias Anderson for the beautifully written article that accompanies the visual collection and to Ms. Gina Ward (Central Regional Marketing Manager) for her assistance and thoughtfulness as my point of connection with Fine Art Connoisseur magazine. My very best wishes to all! JD

Mayflies and Trout Rise, Okutama River was juried into the in the National Sculpture Society's 83rd Annual Awards Exhibition and appeared at the Brookgreen Gardens in 2016, where it was awarded the Pietro and Alfrieda Montana Memorial Prize for "an outstanding work, either carved or cast."

Original sculpture dialogue reads:

"I sat in my yukata sipping green tea, looking out over the Okutama River. It was morning and a gentle wind played at the cherry boughs overhanging the water. The sakura season was coming to a close and the petals were falling past me onto the flowing surface. I noticed a mayfly alight on the balcony railing – one, then another and another. The trout began to rise among the blossoms ..." JD. Welsh 2016
